Europeans named some parts of the West African coast according to the "goods" - including people - they could find there. In modern terms, this classification corresponds to the following countries:

Senegambia	Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea Bissau (captives deported through this area also came from landlocked Mali)
Sierra Leone	Sierra Leone and Guinea
Windward Coast	Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire
Gold Coast	Ghana
Slave Coast or Bight of Benin	Togo, Benin, and southwest Nigeria
Bight of Biafra	Eastern Nigeria and Cameroon to Gabon
