Anti-colonial Demonstration
Africans in the United States supported and publicized the struggles of their countrymen for independence. They organized meetings and rallies, and wrote articles for black newspapers. Some also participated in demonstrations organized by African Americans protesting racism, discrimination, and segregation. In the 1940s and 50s, the events surrounding the fight against segregation and the civil rights movement were widely reported in Nigeria thanks to Nnamdi Azikiwe's chain of newspapers.
