The Slave Market, Saint Augustine, Florida

The domestic slave trade distributed the African-American population throughout the Southern states. There were 15,500 black people in Florida in 1830 and 61,750 thirty years later. Many had been bought from traders who visited the state, and some were sold at slave markets.
