War Workers in the Bay Area
Richmond, California, in the San Francisco Bay area, drew thousands of migrants during World War II. Richmond was home to the shipyards of Henry J. Kaiser. Destination communities in the West - unlike Northern cities - had not experienced large influxes of black migrants prior to World War II. This couple settled in Oakland.
