L'Union, July 30, 1863

L'Union

In the first issue, Roudanez's L'Union published an exchange of letters between Victor Hugo and Eugene Heurtelou, the editor of Haiti's republican newspaper Le Progrès. The letters extolled the exploits of John Brown and predicted an end of United States slavery and a revolutionary upheaval based on the French republican ideals of liberté, égalité, fraternité (liberty, equality, fraternity.)
