One of Nigeria's largest ethnic groups, Yoruba also live in neighboring Benin. The Yoruba language or some form of it, is spoken by more than twenty million people. Their religion is practiced outside of Nigeria, in the Caribbean and North and South America, especially in Cuba and Brazil, the destination of many Yoruba who were sold into slavery in the nineteenth century. There were very few Yoruba deported to the United States.
